I have 3 CAD workstations based on 800 Mhz Intel VC820
motherboards. Two are connected to the Internet via Modem.
During the recent blaster scare I downloaded and applied
the Microsoft security patch to just the two internet
machines. I now find that if I run the cleanmgr from the
run command or the disk cleanup window, nothing happens.
The cleanup window can be cancelled but the machines are
so slow as to be useless. Rebooting solves the problem. If
cleanmgr is run again, the machine reverts to very slow
mode. Invoking the Task Manager showe thar cleanmgr is
running occupying 99% of the CPU resource. If you let it,
it will run for hours without stopping. Click on the
cleanmge and stop it and the computer returns to normal
operation. Is there a bug in the Microsoft security
patch ??? The CAD workstation without the security patch
runs cleanmge in the normal manned and performs its
cleanup tasks normally. I have noticed that the Norton
Cleansweep utility has exactly the same bad effect on my
Internet PC's as cleanmgr.

At what step does this happen. Cleanmgr loads lots of other little =
programs that do the work.
