Automatic Downloads

Can anyone help? Fot the past week, I have been getting a
prompt from the automatic download that there is a patch
for direct X. When I click on install, it downloads and
that is it. I am not asked to re-boot so that the
settings can take effect as happens with other downloads.

Then the next day I get the same prompt again and so this
has been going on for a week.

I am running a P3 800 Mhz PC with XP Home Upgrade (from
ME). I have an internal firewall (MCAFEE) and an external
firewall provided by my router. I don't think these are
the problem as I have had them for a while and have had
no issue with other downloads.
