Talking to MSN Messenger from Windows Messenger

Can MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger talk to Windows Messenger (XP
builtin) and vice versa?

Yep, backwards compatibility is in place for all Messenger versions with some minor
exceptions of features that don't exist in the older versions.
