KB823980 Setup Error and others

I hadn't updated windows since last march maybe. so when
i tried to install the patches and security updates, some
would not install and others said i have the wrong
service pack. i can't install the blaster worm fix, it
says i have a KB823980 setup error, and says i do not
have the cryptographic services installed. now when i run
windows update, it says i need to update that. but when i
click on "update now" it brings up the download window,
then when i hit yes, it takes me back to the page
with "update now" and says i still have to install the
software.

yay! it worked. thank you so much nicholas, been trying
