Hi8 tape to computer

I am trying to hook up a Sony DCR-TRV320 video camera to a Sony VAIO
VGP-RC210 Series Computer. When opening up Windows Movie Maker, it does not
detect the camera. I have an S cable going from the video camera to an S
cable IN on the computer and also a dual audio cable (red and white). The
camera is turned on but it still is not recognizing it. Any suggestions?

I read the article titled: Computer and Movie Maker 2 Limitations but it
talks about a digital video camera. I don't have that. What article should I
be reading?

Have you tried using your IEEE 1394 firewire
connection to download your movies?

No. I don't have a wire for that connection. In the manual, it says to use
the video and S cables OR AV dubbing cables so that's what I got. I also
checked on the software and it's all updated.

I don't know about the manual but IEEE
1394 FireWire is best for downloading
digital video.

Checking the specs for you computer
and camera shows that both have the
IEEE 1394 firewire connections.

Thanks. That got me one step closer. But I have one last problem. In the
Capture Video screen, the directions say that your video you are playing on
your camera should appear here, but it doesn't, so the DVD is taping a blank
screen. Any more suggestions? I checked the help forums and it says that
you need Media Center Edition installed (which I do) and the server is
running. The software recognizes my analog camera attached and it recognizes
a blank DVD inserted. It runs through the whole process, but it's taping a
blank screen. I can watch the video on the camera while it's playing, but
it's not sending the signal to the computer.

I figured out why I was taping a black screen. I was using the hook-ups in
the front of the computer. Once I switched them to the back, it worked fine.
Now how do I get the front hook-ups to work for future use?
