This will be of no help to you but am adding a similar
complaint for myself hoping to receive an answer also. I
have just downloaded Windows XP service pack also and
during the installation it froze completely. On
restarting the computer it now won't boot up. It begins
to load Windows then stops and reboots itself. There are
no error messages just a constant loop of restarts.
It is driving me to distraction -you try to do the right
thing to protect yourself from virus by inistalling
updates and patches only to be worse off than before.
Am I likely to need to do a complete recovery thus losing
all my work documents or does anyone have a slight clue
over how to get my laptop up and going again???

thanks
Bernadette

Bernadette,
If you didn't have a firewall installed and enabled when
you went on the Internet to get your downloads, have you
considered that you might have picked up the Blaster worm
or one of its variants?
