XP Service Pack 1

I recently downloaded and installed service pack 1.
After installation, my PC started running significantly
slower for all operations.

I uninstalled SP1 and the PC response time is back to
normal. However, I am concerned that I need SP1 to be
installed. Any advice on installing SP1 without slowing
down my PC?
