View Full Version : burning a dvd from movie maker & MyDVD

I have spent hours trying to burn a dvd using Sonic MyDVD to no avail. I have
saved my movie in AVI format (from windows movie maker). The size of my AVI
file is 21.1GB - 1 hour 44 mins. When I import it into MyDVD, the burn button
is greyed out - thus it is too big to fit on either a 4.7GB or 8.5GB (dual
layer) dvd. I have successfully burnt a smaller AVI file - 14 mins, onto a
dvd, so I have tried to compress the 21.1GB AVI file using Digital Media
Converter 2.6, however this compressed version is unable to be imported into
MYDVD. I am so frustrated with this!!! I'm sure there is a simple
solution...if someone has encountered the same problem, I would really
appreciate some guidance please!

I'm no expert on burning DVDs but I think the
length of your movie has more to do with the
issue than the file size. I hour is typically the
limit on a 4.7GB DVD. If you have dual layer
media and a dual layer burner...you may be
able to fit your movie on one DVD.

Searching Google Groups for

Here is the support page for your authoring software, and that specific
problem:
http://support.sonic.com/desktop/mydvd/default.asp?c=1&product=mydvd

The file size of the AVI usually has no impact as it is converted
"on-the-fly"
to mpeg - The *length* indicates that once converted it will easily fit on a
DL
at standard play or a 4.7gb disk at LP. You could try "burning" to a HD
folder,
this will create all the menu's and VOB's, once complete you can then
transfer
to disk.......

I have installed a second hard drive to try to counteract the problem of low
disk space when saving my AVI movie file in the SonicMyDVD folder. However
when it reaches the point of "transcoding audio", one green bar shows up on
the progress bar, and then it freezes. There is now plenty of space on both
hard drives, so space shouldn't be the issue. Don't know what to try
next...please advise, anyone!

Have you also set MyDVD to use the new drive for it's temp files?
