Windows Update runs on my system and determines that I
need:
Microsoft .NET Framework Service Pack 2, English Version
Microsoft .NET Framework Service Pack 2, Japanese Version

I intall these updates and when I rerun Windows Update it
tell me I still need these updates. Does anyone know what
is interogated on my system to determine whether I need
these updates or not?

They are recommended, not required. Sounds like you might have a damaged
catroot2 folder though, rename it in safe mode and try reinstalling the
updates.

Have you got some developer/programming software on this system? What =
programs did you add to this system?
Are you on XP Pro & also activated IIS server?

I really doubt (unless you have a Japanese program) that you'd need the =
Japanese version of Net Framework.

Finally, you need to be cautioned that sometimes you need to ignore some =
items in the "Recommended" category. Those that show there are not =
"mandatory" --- or rather, they are optional & user selected.
