Help, I am an educator and use XP for developing
classroom materials and other instructional related
materials. I recently purchased a Canon 300 digital
camera. When I tried to install the software, I get
error 1607 Unable to install INSTALLShield scripting
runtime. I have no idea where to start and so far have
been nothing but confused trying to navugate the
Microsoft support system. Any assistance will be greatly
appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

BK

Have you contacted Canon Tech Support? It's their software and that's where
you should begin.

I find it hard to believe that it is the software that is
causing this problem. I also I have this problem and
don't know how to fix it. It has happened with my
daughters Nemo game and also while trying to install
adobe acrobat reader. Again any help would be
appreciated.

thank you

Does the error say anything else besides 1607? Also, have you checked the
event log to see if there is a corresponding error that might have more
information. Open Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools, open Event
Viewer, look for errors corresponding to when the Error 1607 (I find it hard
to believe that's the entire error message) appeared. Double click, if
seems incomprehensible, copy and paste it here, maybe we can figure it out.
There are 3 buttons in that box, the third one copies the information to the
clipboard.

Hi,

Try cleaning up the installer.

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double click
it. Stop the service if it is running, set the startup type line to
disabled. Click apply/ok and reboot.

Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Now reverse the first set of steps and reenable the Windows Installer (You
can just set the startup type to manual). Reboot.

Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software. Use
ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Now retry installing some software. If it doesn't help, here are some
further articles that may:
