View Full Version : Blue screen stop message

I'm running XP Professional on a new Dell machine and I'm
getting an occasional blue screen that says:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer.
It this is the first time you've seen this stop error
screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears
again, follow these steps.
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a
driver is identified in the stop message, disable the
driver or check with the manufacturer for driver
updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates.
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or
shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or
disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to
select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe
Mode.
Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF86327A, 0xF89819A8,
0x00000000)
***MpFirewall.sys - Address F863827A base at F8636000,
Datestamp 3d40500a
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support
group for further assistance"
What's that all about?
I know there's a file that XP keeps in the memory dump
folder. It's a "dmp" file.
Can I send that to someone who knows how to decipher it?
Like Dell or Microsoft?
TIA

I was (and still am) getting the blue screen quite
frequently. I have just downloaded the latest critical
update, however have also removed mcafee security. quite
apart from the blue screens which are getting more and
more irritating, upon startup my machine will continually
say the 'pci.sys' or 'isapnp.sys' files are corrupt /
missing. after attempting to reboot about 30 times,
suddenly it would kick in and windows starts as per normal.
any ideas on whats going on? can i simply copy the pci.sys
and isapnp.sys files from another machine or will that
really screw things up?
