windows explorer hangs when i try to delete or right click

not sure when or why but windows explorer now hangs when
ever i try to delete a file or right click or select a
file and go to the file menu. can delete fine over
network or from cmd. used the scans for worms and came
out clean.

Franklin, try going to Classic Control Panel>Display>Appearance>Effects
Uncheck the box
Use the following transition effect of menus and
tooltips. See what happens.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. When I right-click a file on a
Gateway Solo Pro 9300 using XP Pro the system shows an
hourglass and essentially hangs at this point. I tried the
Appearance fix listed below but that hasn't helped and
tried to select the file/folder first before right clicking
but that didn't work. Can anyone offer any other
suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know if this will help. Had the same problem with
File Explorer after installing MS patches to my XP Pro.
Couldn't find any fixes in MS support or here. The only
software I'd recently installed was WinOnCD5 - CD burning
software, so used XP restore to go back before that install
was made. That fixed the problem. I then repatched.
Haven't reinstalled the CD software...a little concerned
that future patches might cause the problem again. Good
