Windows Update

I have installed Windows XP Home, which I purchased
approximately two months ago. I have registered and
activated the software. When I go to Windows Update and
hit the Scan button it comes back almost immediately and
says no updates are available. It show 0% and goes
directly to 100% without showing 33% or 66%. I am
running Internet Explorer 5 so I know updates are
available. What do I need to do to Get the Windows
Update site to truly scan my computer and provide all
applicable updates?

Are you accessing Windows Update as Administrator or as a limited user?

How can you be running IE5 on a WinXP Home machine? WinXP Home (and Pro
for that matter) comes with IE6 pre-installed as part of the OS.

Or, as I suspect, are you trying to say saying (somewhat unclearly) that
you are running IE5 on a *diferent* computer, which you have used to
check the Update site to see if there were updates?

Reason I point this out is that the Update site will check what updates
are needed for *that particular machine* which is connected at the time.
In thesw circumstances there would be updates available for the machine
running IE5, but on the other hand your WinXP machine may find no updates
if it was up to date because then no updates may be availablwe......

For sake of non-argument, I'll presume you have XP & IE6.
For your symptom, I'm passing on a solution from the Windows Update =
Troubleshooter page.
Post back with your results.

Scan quickly reaches 100% and displays "There are no updates available" =
message / log file lists error 0x800C0008 or 0x80072EE4=20

Problem Description:=20
When you use the Windows Update scan feature, the scan quickly reaches =
100%, and then displays the "There are no updates available at this =
time" message. The log file contains error 0x800c0008 or 0x80072EE4.=20

Resolutions:=20
.....The scan process requires SSL and **if ** the date and time on =
your computer varies too much from the valid date and time of the SSL =
certificates on Windows Update, the process will fail.=20

Please verify that your **computer's date and time are accurate **
and=20
that the Internet Explorer language option is not empty.

To check the language setting in Internet Explorer:
1. Click "Tools" and then select "Internet Options".
2. Click "Languages".
3. Make sure at least one language is listed in the "Language Options" =
dialog box.

Please delete the Internet cache and cookies.
1. Click "Tools" and then select "Internet Options".
2. Click "Delete Cookies".
3. Click "Delete Files".
