Windows has encountered a problem & needs to close . . .

Man, what a godsend this newsgroup is. I've been all over the Net reading,
reading, reading. I need some help, please!

I'm running XP Pro; my updates come automatically; I'm running a Compaq Evo
N800V laptop.

My problem: whenever I click "into" my network places, Windows Explorer
boots me back out to my desktop!! Then, an error message appears and states
"Windows has encountered a problem & needs to close."

$##)$????? I'm pulling pubic hair out at an alarming rate! Can anyone
assist? Thankx so much.
