I got onto Microsoft's critical updates site, and noted
that there were 25 critical security updates I needed for
my brand new Dell with Windows XP. It took me 3 hours to
download the needed updates- 36.4 megs. But then... it
just hung up and won't install them. Just sits there! My
internet is still working, but... FYI, I do have both
Norton Firewall and Norton Anti-virus installed. [During
the download I kept getting a message about Win32
something, and my firewall said it was ok, low risk, I
assume this was just something needed during the
downloading to process the data. Then from time to time
Norton's side window popped up saying something about
"messenger" accessing the computer.] Thanks for your help.

Is your WinXP registered with Microsoft? If not, SP1 won't install.
