I have a hp754n with XP home edition. I also have an
internet cable modem. The problem occurs when I try to
put the system into standby mode. It appears that the
software does not have the ability to shut off the modem
input, so that the computer is recieving regular interval
signals from the modem causing the computer to turn on.
After a set period the computer will go back into standby
until the next signal appears. If I put the modem into
standby, then the computer works fine. Is there a fix for
this problem?

Check your system BIOS settings...there should be an option to disable
waking up your modem.
