View Full Version : Which XP services needed for modem?

I have a PCI V90 soft modem but Device Manager shows a yellow
exclamation mark and the modem properties dialog says it is not
functional.
I tried reinstalling the device but the Add hardware Wizard could not
detect the modem and didn't show it in its list of hardware installed.
Is the modem card dead?
I used to use that modem card a lot in Win98 so I would be surprised if
it has just gone dead.

It certainly sounds as if your old modem has died. If you used in Win98,
it is very old in hardware-years. Uninstall it and replace it with a
new modem. You can get a basic modem for under $25USD.

No, it was just installed improperly NOT according to the docs.

Dead is one of several possibilities.
Wrong driver/no driver is another.
Disabling the Telephony service does not cause symptoms in the device
manager so, i don't think it's a services issue.
