I recently reformatted the hardrive on my PC using an XP Media Centre edition CD that i got with a laptop i bought. Since ive reloaded the computer i can't seem to get any sound. Ive tried using windows update to get the driver for the sound card, and have used the company website for the sound card to get the driver.. with no change. Ive uninstalled the sound card and re installed with no change? Can anyone suggest anything? Is it to do with the Windows i loaded?
thanks

Sounds like a "wrong driver/no driver" issue. If your computer came
with a drivers disk, use it.

Next try the manufacturor of your laptop's web site.

After that, use a system identification tool (aida32, everest) to find
out who made your card, and what model it is. And hit the sound card
driver's website.

Absolute last resort: driverguide.com

So: what make/model laptop?

Let me guess, the XP Media Center CD is not the software
that came with that PC?

You will need to get the correct Windows CD for the laptop, the XP Media
Centre edition CD isn't the correct one.
