I am unable to start my desktop as the message is that
file : \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is either missing
or corrupt.I have Windows XP professional edition.
What do I do?
Do I need original Set Up CD, which I have do not have as
I have lost it. Hope I do not have to buy a new XP pro. It
is too expensive.
I thought of using XP Home Editon. When I tried to
install Windows XP Home edition, it does not get all my
files, particularly "My documents"(These are important !!).
My question is how to fix the missing file. Can I copy
from another Laptop or PC on a floppy and try using this
floppy to repair this file. What will be the procedure? My
lap top has Windows Home. Will the file be the same?
I have heard that I can restore the system to an earlier
date, which will work fine for me. Will the good version
of this missing or corrupt file be there and I can just
get everything to work. What is the procedure to do that?
The procedre described on microsoft web-site talks aboout
using Recovery Console. Can I avoid doing that or it the
only proecedure?
Any help will be greatly appreciatyed. Thanks in
anticipation.
