xp takes 2 minutes to boot

XP startup screen scrolls a few times, screen goes blank
for about 1.5 minutes before desktop appears. Bootvis
trace shows this as 92 seconds for registry and pagefile.
Tried bootvis optimize but no different.
If I try safe mode, the delay comes when it is loading
mup.sys.
Tried bootvis optimize but no different.

Any more clues?
