Hi all,
I have a very weird problem on my XP Pro PC. I can't retrieve the System
Properties anymore. Right clicking on "My Computer" and then choosing the
"Properties" just doesn't do anything anymore. The systems continues to
function, I don't get any error message whatsoever and only when I shut down
the system a popup screen tells me that rundll32.exe has stopped responding
and if I would end the non responding program. The same thing happens when I
click on the "System" icon in the Control Panel.
To further complicate matters, I can't install any soft- or hardware
anymore. The Windows Installer starts and then the window "Preparing to
install" just stays on the screen until I minimize it or shut down the
system. Again, the PC behaves normally when I start other programs such as
Word or Outlook or any other program.
In the event log, the only entries I can find are Event Id 1002, category
(101) telling me an application was hanging.
I've been trying to figure out what the hell happened and how to recover
from this error without reinstalling XP. I've tried about everything I could
find in the Knowledge Base, checked my machine for virusses, used msconfig
to have detailed startup configuration, tried sfc to check the validity of
the system files but nothing helped.
Does anyone please have a clue what is going on ? I've been searching for
several weeks now but didn't find any solution.

thx,
Rog
