I am working on a DOS based software and I need to copy
screen on a clip board and paste it on MS Word or Adobe
Photoshop. But with windows XP, the PRNT SCREEN doesn't
work. I have tried it in various combinations with Shift
and Alt keys.

If you are running the program in a command prompt box which emulates
DOS, the Alt-PrtScrn (active window) or PrtScrn (full desktop) does
indeed work. Why it doesn't work for you is a mystery. Maybe PrtScrn
button flawed?
But I assure it does work in a standard XP.
You are then pasting (Ctrl-V) into Word?
As a workaround, notice the icon in the upper left hand corner of the
command prompt box. click on that with your mouse and use the edit menu
commmand to mark, copy, and paste in a way which avoids the PrtScrn button.

it consumes the whole screen, and there is no way, I can
use any icons to copy. The only alternative is to use
printscreen, then press Alt+Tab key to reach MS Word and
paste it through clipboard. The printscreen button is OK,
because it works good when working otherwise, but here it
fails.

Congratulations. Your last post is totally devoid of any
discernible meaning. Can you, or can you not do a
screen grab and transfer it via copy? What are you
trying to do?

I don't understand what you are saying. Does it or does it not work?
Of course you ahve to ALT-TAB (or use some other technique( to make Word
be the active application and paste through the clibboard. That's how it
works.
Try to work the DOS app in something other than a full screen window.
Reduce the font size (I use 5x12 box and I run Windows in 1024x768 ...
this will show an awful lot of DOS ... more than DOS gave back in the
good old days) to make it a partial window. Then you will see the icon
in upper right hand corner.
