Movie Maker capture is extremely pixelated

I've successfully captured some footage from my Sony DV Handicam to Windows
Movie Maker but in my last few attempts the preview shows blurry, pixelated
video even though the camcorder's version looks fine. I've been connecting
USB to USB; if the recommendation is for something else (firewire?) I will
need a "for dummies" explanation. (I posted this question a week ago and
apparently received a response but could not pull it up on the website.)

Go to BesBuy or CompUSA and tell them this plus buy the firewire after your
check your PC make and model for the firewire connection
