Access a network shared folder

Hi all,
I have a service running under Local system account. However, I am
unable to access any shared folder on my LAN. I have given fulll
control to the folder that I want to access. The error I get, when I
select the folder from my application's interface is:
The folder does not exist
If I select a local folder, it works perfectly, as expected.
Can u suggest me a solution for this problem. Is it necessary that I
should run my application as a Network service. If so, will it work for
the local folders?
