How do you copy a file on a CD to the hard drive in Win XP
Pro? I have a new laptop and need to transfer files from
my desktop.
Thanks?

As long as the CD file is visible to XP (which normally it would be) you
can copy it from the CD to the hard drive.

I thought the concept of Drag n Drop was that you could
literally drag the file from the CD to the hard drive. Is
this not so? What about the Drag n Drop icons on the
desktop? What function do they have?

I'm not sure how you concluded this from what I said, and I'm not sure
where the topic of Drag and Drop comes in ... but, let's try again.
Yes, you can "drag and then drop" the icon for a file from a CD to a
folder which represents your hard disk.
It has nothing to do with icons on your desktop.
If you "drag" files from the CD to your desktop they will go (guess
where?) ... the desktop. The desktop is simply yet another folder in
your profile (you can see it if you right-mouse click the start button
and "explore".
you asked what the function of the icons on the desktop are. the
traditional function is to launch programs for which thse icons's are
short-cuts.
I suggest you read the "Windows Basic" article which is on the first
screen "help" system. I also urge you to simply try to do what it is
what you want to do.

I guess I would like to supplement this by saying that you should be
using Windows Explorer to do all this move moving around. Easiest way
to start it is to hold down the Windows Key, then press "e"

Have you actually tried to do what you're talking about?
If you can see the file on the CD in an Explorer window
you can indeed drag and drop it. What the hell is a
"Drag n Drop" icon?

Sam see my reply in this thread to Wislu. You are correct about the term
"drag and drop"

Drag n Drop is the name of the new version packet writing software from Easy
CD & DVD Creator 6. Drag n Drop replaces Direct CD. When you install Easy CD
& DVD Creator 6 it automatically installs Drag n Drop and places a large
icon in the lower right corner of the Desktop. This can be turned on or off
through preference settings.
