PLEASE HELP!
We purchased a Dell computer in March. On Tuesday, it
crashed and burned. Turns out the memory card was loose,
but prior to finding that out, Dell had me reformat my
hard drive.
All these months I have had an icon in the task bar
(lower right-hand corner) that notifies me when I have
updates to install. I have installed numerous updates
between March and now. I did select(thru Control
Panels>System)for my computer to notify me as it did
before the crash. I know I'm missing updates, there are
numerous ones listed on the windowsupdate site, but my
computer isn't downloading anything and the icon has
still not appeared.
Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. I was
told by a Dell rep that the icon would appear (after
selecting that I wanted them to come automatically) when
I next visited the internet. I've been up here several
times and nothing is happening. Another Dell rep. told me
this afternoon that I SHOULD NEVER UPDATE my WIndows,
because I would have to reformat my hard drive again.
That statement seems utterly ridiculous. Once upon a time
(long before Windows ever existed), I worked for Tandy
troubleshooting Xenix problems over the phone. His
statement only furthered my aggravation and frustration
level and I can only imagine what Microsoft would think
about someone at Dell telling me that.
Please help me if you can.
THANKS!
