So I am trying to repair a friends laptop that seems to
have the blaster worm and the Welchia worm and who knows
what else. I proceeded to download the latest updates for
a start.

It turns out he didn't even have SP1 installed so I
started out by installing that. It got about 99.9% of the
way through and then hung trying to install M
(something).html (not sure if it matters what it was
installing). Everything hosed up and I was forced to
power cycle it after waiting an hour to see if it would
just come out of whatever hung it up.

Now it boots to the windows XP screen and then black
screen and then it reboots and does it all again.

I have tried the fix in the knoledge base (#310396) where
I expand out the kernel32.dll file from the CD and then
try again but that does nothing. I also tried (#329015)
where you try to re install XP as a repair but I don't
get the option to repair it. It only says setup XP,
create partition, or delete partition.

All I can think of to do next is to just re install on
that partition.

Is there anything else I can do?
