View Full Version : norton antivirus 2006

I have a very rare chance of getting viruses, etc. I'm online maybe
once a week to check my mail.
Norton 06 has considerably slowed down my machine, so I'd like to shut
it off and just turn it on once a month and update/scan. I see there's
several processes in my task panel running that pertain to Norton, and
are draining my CPU. Can I shut everything off?

Yes, as you have found NAV is resource heavy. Here is a link to an article
which compares anti-virus programs. There are several free ones that work
ok, including AntiVir, Avast and AVG. To remove NAV start with Add/Remove
programs and remove everything related to Norton / Symantec products. After
that go to the Symantec website and download the removal utility for that
program. Good luck.

If you want to keep NAV but turn off some of the services contact Symantec
Tech support for advice.
