View Full Version : Remote Assistance Error

I've posted this several times in the help_and_support group but haven't
gotten much play. I cannot initiate a remote assistance session to any
computer in our domain. It isn't a Windows Firewall problem. Workstation
firewalls are disabled in our domain by group policy.

I initiate the session from my workstation (as the expert) to any
workstation in the domain, and the error that is generated is:

A program could not start. Please try again. (sic)

Has there been a security update that would affect this operation? Is there
an IE security setting that would prohibit this?

Thanks, Will Niccolls

Anyone have any ideas on this? Surely I'm not the only one who's seen this
error.

The service "Remote Desktop Help Session Manager" requires "RPC Remote
Procedure Call", so I would think both would have to be set to
Automatic, or Manual at least.

Just for reference the help_and_support group is for the help function in
XP, not for general help questions.

Thanks for the information. But consider that that since Remote Assistance
is accessed via the Help and Support Menu it would be well within the
purview of such a group.

"
To start Remote Assistance

1.. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2.. Click Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote
Assistance.
