View Full Version : Windows Installer has hijacked my OS

C/P Setup&Deployment (rarely do this, but problem is now
urgent)
Have a terrible problem that I have had zero success in
resolving over past two days. The background on this
begins w/ a macro/global settings problem w/Word02.I
finally gave up on fixing it and after running repair w/o
success, I uninstalled.
When I went to reinstall from my CD, was prompted for s/n
and was unable to complete installation, because first
two
letters/numbers got kniced off sticker. Closed
installer and ever since have had a runaway Windows
Installer Ready to Install/Begin Installation (or words
to that effect-seen it so many times I can hardly bear to
look at it).
The only way to navigate is w/ Task Mngr ready at Tbar
and to end task w/ the culprit and move quickly. It
appears at boot-up and almost at every new prog or
browser selection -1/2 the time the last item pulled up
closes when the ill mannered little beast has it's task
ended.
Before presenting the numerous remedies attempted, (I've
visited places I'd be happy never to see again!), would
love to hear from the voice of experience and perhaps get
the direct, >go to< route for fixing this problem. TX.
Having a bad OS week and about to loose it.

TX Larry. Good info to have- I bookmarked the site. My
problem deals w/ a Windows Installer not an Installer for
Windows(XP). I think I may have given my FrontPage s/n
instead of my Word (2002). Also, my Word won't reinstall-
get unusual messages like "Wrong OS for this
Insallalation". Other considerations might be thatthe -
-- Word CD is Upgade from '97 ed.
-- the WinXP was pkgd w/ the computer.
-- have run repair w/ FP and that worked fine.
-- have an old 97Office on the syst. that is rarely used
--
Think the Windows Installer Package for Word has left a
scrap in limbo that keeps looping around. It; been a
while since I've had OS probs.
