I cannot get the disk cleanup feature to work. It just
stays stuck in the "scanning compressed files mode" and
never goes on to the summary. There is no movement
there. I would go in manually and empty the files but I
don't know how to do that - just the recycle bin and I
can access the empty temporary internet files from the
help and settings. Beyond that, what files can I go in
to safely delete so I can clean up my hard drive? Unless
I can figure out a way to get that disk cleanup tool to
work. In the index, it said to run a cleanmgr. file but
when I tried, the computer said that no such file
existed. Help! Could this be some sort of infection? I
have my firewall enabled and had downloaded that patch.
DO I need to do something else?

Sharon;
Try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812248
Or
Follow this link:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 48, Right column "Disk Cleanup - Compress..."
Save on Desktop.
Double click the icon once downloaded.
The icon can then be discarded.
