View Full Version : IMAPI CD-Burning Service causing crashes?

I have had an ongoing battle with my computer crashing,
and the IMAPI CD-Burning Service is always on the
application log at the time of the crash. The service
receives a command to start, it starts, then it stops.
That is usually the last entry because upon the service
stopping the computer freezes.

Here's the odd thing: I'm not using the CD burner at the
time. The computer receives apparently random commands to
write to the CD, and this starts the cycle that hangs the
system. I get the same problem even if I disable the
service. I get the same problem regardless of which or how
many CD drives I have installed in my machine.

Any idea what could be wrong, or how to fix it?

Did you ever get this solved? I'm having the SAME problem. I disabled my cd-burner (physically unplugged it), but now the system event log gets an actual error (the red x) saying this:

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service ImapiService with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
{520CCA63-51A5-11D3-9144-00104BA11C5E}

So I'm trying to track down where this "attempt" to start the service is initiated. Any ideas would be helpful.
