video capture device not detected

when trying to download my video from a sony mini dv camcorder to movie maker
i get the message (video capture device not detected verify that a device is
turned on and connected properly)i can download on usb but its my firewire
connection that wont respond. my camera beeps when switched on and i have
also fitted the fire wire card to another connection. could it be a faulty
firewire card . all was working fine until a few days ago . thanking you r

It could be, or it could be a faulty cable/cam......
