Obviously, something is hanging the system. Start by checking the event
log. Go to Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Even Viewer and
look for errors that correspond to when this event occurs. Since it appears
to be frequent, you should see several such errors. Double click a few of
them and see if the information on the inside is the same in most of them.
The information may also give a clue as to the source of the issue.

Something else you can do. While at the XP desktop, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility."
This will tell you if you have any problem hardware or software on the
system. Any such problems might be the source of the issue. ***This
presupposes you have an actual XP CD as opposed to an OEM supplied recovery
disk in which case, you may not be able to perform this task.

Did XP come preinstalled on your system, if not, what operating system was
originally on your setup? Also, if not, when you installed XP did you do a
clean install or did you install it over your previous setup?
