View Full Version : Remote Assistance not recognising Messenger

I have Windows Live Messenger installed and running fine but when I try to
use Remote Assistance through it the Help and Support page says that
Messenger is not installed. I have reinstalled it but it still is not
recognised. I can use Remote Assistance by emailing the file without any
problems but I'd live to get it working through Messenger as it's easier.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

What version of Messenger are you running.
You must be running Windows Messenger 5.1 or later.

Windows Messenger (not Windows LIVE Messenger) needs to be installed for
Remote Assistance to work.

You can download the latest Windows Messenger version here
Windows Messenger 5.1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a8d9eb73-5f8c-4b9a-940f-9157a3b3d774&DisplayLang=en

Remote Assistance relies on Windows Messenger to be installed.
If Windows Messenger is not installed, Remote Assistance will not work, and
as a result, Windows LIVE Messenger cannot use Remote Assistance. As a
result, you'll need to install Windows Messenger.

Thank you, it works now. I didn't realise that Messenger and Live Messenger
were different things I thought Live Messenger was just the updated version
of Messenger.
