I am running xp pro and have downloaded version 2.0 of mbsa but it will not
initialise it says the catalog file is damaged or an invalid catalog. I read
that this could be due to an MS hotfix not being installed but when I try to
install the relevant hotfix it says that I already have it...... what do I
do next?

You might try rephrasing your question, then, and reposting. It really is
the right group for any MBSA questions.
That said - I'm presuming you can download & install other MSI files.
