For some time now i've experienced that there is 2
instances of explorer running when checking the task
manager.

I am running antivirus software + firewall so i can not
seem to find the cause for this problem - therefor no
sollution either.

If anyone have had the same experience plz. let me know
what to do

Close one or both instances. Likely one or both got started
inadvertently. It's not a problem to have multiple instances running,
and it's unlikely to be a virus.

If they "come back" after restarting your system, the command to start
them may be in your "startup" folder. Check there.

I take intrest in securing your computer using registry settings on networks
i administrate by applying settings that block users from performing
specific tasks like blocking the control panel or removing the 'run' item in
the start menu.

Along with these settings, there is a way in which you can get internet
explorer and windows explorer to run in seperate processes.
For egsample, one process per window of IE. If one IE window crashes, the
rest will remain unaffected.
I have been told this is the same with explorer. You can apply the seperate
processes registry setting so if an explorer window crashes then the task
bar and desktop will not.

Explorer is not only the windows file manager, it also is the task bar,
start menu and presents the desktop as well.

There is also a chance that there could be something wrong with your system.
If there is a large difference in RAM usage between these explorer processes
ie. more than 10 MB then it will most likely be a fault.
