I recently enabled the firwall that comes with windows
xp.In trying to understand one of its effects, my question
is...does this mean that when I visit a particular
website, the controller of that site will NOT be able to
identify me because I have the firewall enabled?

this is an incorrect assumption. firewalls are designed to keep people out
of your computer. for better protection you should use something else
besides the XP firewall, such as zone alarm. the XP firewall is very basic
and provides minimal protection...
