I have been using WMM and saving projects....but now when I go to Open
Project there are huge X's where the movie clips should be...all pictures and
transitions and effects are still there but the actual movie is gone....
Anyone having this problem?

Were the movie clips moved or deleted
from their original locations? If you right
click the Red Xs...can you browse to the
clips?

No I just said save project as I always do and saved it to My Videos...when I
open it back up, the clips are there with the correct time length but no
pictures....when I play the storyline only the titles and video transitions
play the rest is black. I tried right clicking and it saysthe file 'D:\My
Videos\Pam &Erik.wmv cannot be found.--

Save Project creates a .mswmm
project file...not a movie clip. The
project file does not include the
source files...it only records the
path to the files...if the files are
moved or deleted Movie Maker
cannot access them and you see
the Red Xs.
The question is...where are your
original source files that you imported
into Movie Maker. Did you import
these clips from your hard drive or
possibly a source that Movie Maker
can no longer access?

Thanks so much John....what I did was rename some of the movies I had created
when you do a save to computer. It makes a Windows Media Player movie and I
guess when I renamed them, it changed the name of the WMV clips? Anyway I
just did a test and changed a name and it happened and then changed the name
back it was there again....did it with a picture project with sound and
renamed one of the pictures in My Pictures and that one picture appeared as a
X.

Now you got it...
Your renaming of the files broke the path.
If movie Maker cannot find the files...it will
display the Red Xs.

I don't think so...I can write CD's and DVD's just not in the normal ways
that I used to....I looked at all the references you pointed to and have gone
to some in the past and others do not apply...I don't get an error in the
writing, it's getting to that point that is a problem. The one which I thot
mite be pertinent, is now gone..

WMM says a recordable CD drive cannot be found, but if I use 'send to' I get
an option to send to DRIVE E....for Drag and Drop CD+DVD which works. For
DVD's I take the WMP files into Sonic and create the DVD's using that. Some
apps have an option to define what drive to use....I looked EVERYWHERE in WMM
and cudn't find any way to tell it what drive to use....oh well like I sed, I
can work around this stuff.
I do not have a 'recording' tab on the properties for my DVR/CD RW drive
like I used to and have looked at ALL those many articles...I know for sure
that a ton of people have this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled,
blah blah blah. I have a laptop and another PC both using XP and they both
have a recording tab.... The only difference with this computer is that I
have XP Media Center Edition...I have to assume that one of the Windows
updates has hosed this because it sure used to work just fine.
