OS is windows xp with sp1.
(System config- 256mb ram, 1.3 GHz processor)
System performance is very poor and when i check the
processes, system is taking the major chunck of cpu ie
about 95-98%. When I checked related postings in the
newsgroup there is an advise to "Try disabling Indexing
Service in Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services. Rt
click on Index Service select Properties and in the
Startup Type Field choose disable." I see that the index
service is not active.
Is there anything that can be done to make the system
perform better and why is that the system is
overstraining.

When you say "system is taking the major chunck of cpu ie
> about 95-98%" are you talking about System Idle Process?
If so, the System Idle Process indicates the percent of the CPU that is NOT
being used.

System Idle process was just 1% of CPU. Remaining was
taken by 'System' process.
System hangs up after few minutes and I need to switch off
the computer to make it better, i feel.
Other instance is that when I click on the IE, it opens
after 5-10 minutes later. So thats the problem.
Thank you for your suggestions.
