My new system with 40 GB harddisk was not partitioned and
the whole of it is being used by the windows XP. I want to
partition the harddisk to install windows 98 in the new
partition. Is it possible ? without requirement to
reinstall windows XP . If so, how.
I would be gratefull for the advice.

It is possible to resize your partition, but only with a 3rd party disk =
utility, ie Partition Magic 8 www.powerquest.com (, or BootitNG from =
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ (30 trial).=20

The only way you can do this, is;
- if your current filing system is FAT32, because 98 needs a boot disk =
disk to load, which is also FAT, and FAT cannot write/read to a NTFS =
partition. But, Partition Magic 8 has the ability to convert NTFS to =
FAT, in case you want to do this.

If you are under NTFS, I personally wouldn't spend the kind of money =
(though it is up to you) on PM8 for what would be the need for this one =
instance, as much as I would back up my programs/file/etc and reinstall =
everthing starting with 98 first.

Another serious consideration is, since you say you have XP, will your =
*new* systems hardware configuration run under 98? Think about it all =
for a bit first, then post back for advice, or no.

Hi,

You need to have a partitioning software such as
Partition magic to partition the disk. But if you have
formatted it as NTFS then you cannot install 98. You will
have to create the partition with partition magic. then
format it with FAT32 and then go for installing 98. But
there wont be any guarantee for the Winxp to be intact.
