Hi, can anyone please tell me what is wrong with the Automatic Updates on my pc? Last week I ran system restore abour half a dozen times to try and sort a problem out. It stopped working and I had to turn it off, I dunno if it is working as I have not tried it again, anyway, it buggered up a few things and I had to reconfigure a couple of programmes. I also noticed that the Automatic Updates won't work, it says something about an exception with shell32.dll, Control_ Run dll, anyone any ideas? Thank you.

Hey JF,

Chances are you need to boot up to your Windows XP disc and run the recovery
manager and run a repair on your Windows. I've seen that happen before where
you can accidently mess up a file in the windows/system32 folder which causes
headaches such as this.

best of luck.

Hi Aaron,
Thank you for the info, unfortunately one of the things that was mucked up
is when I put a CD or DVD into my drive they do not play automatically, the
only way to play them is by opening them through the folders or
Winamp/Intervideo first. When I open the folder for the Sony Vaio recovery
disc it is not as straightforward to read, it is text and dll files, any
ideas? Thanks

Hi,

You might need to run this first. Insert the XP CD in the cd drive or dvd
drive. Forget about the autoplay. This isnt needed for this reparing now.

Go to a command dos prompt and then type this command sfc /scannow

This will run the system file checker and then restore the integrity of all
the windows system files.

Then tell us if you are still facing this problem.
