Just installed XP pro on a Compaq Evo D530 desktop and
cannot use standby or hibernate (they are not a choice on
the shutdown dropdown box). The power management tab does
not show either option. "help file" say the computer
does not support this option???? How can this be, it's a
brand new machine?

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your computer or video =
card.
Search for the latest Windows XP compatible video adapter drivers.
Download and install them in accordance with the installation =
instructions.
After installing the correct drivers, you should have the Standby =
button.

You were right on!! The video driver was set to a
generic (whatever XP thinks it is on install) Loaded the
correct video drivers and everything is back, Thanks for
the help.
