I have a oem restore cd. I would like to have the possibility to do an "sfc
/scannow" or "repair install".
Suppose I buy an actual xp cd, could I do a repair install with that cd
,without further ado, or what would be the procedure ??
My OS is evidently win Xp ,with he latest updates. Thanks

You should be able to do a /scannow with a OEM CD as far as I know.

You should be able to do both. As for sfc /scannow, first use RUN and
type in cmd. Hit enter to get a dos box, then type the command.

If this is a "restore CD" as the OP mentioned then it could very likely just
be an image file in which case SFC can access anything out of it :-(

Providing the version of XP that you buy is the same as the version you are
running (Home->Home or Pro->Pro) then yes you should be able to use it to
run SFC or do a Repair Install.
