View Full Version : Explorer (Shell) does not start after logon

Hi!

I have a quite strange problem on my laptop: sometimes (but not always)
windows comes up with an empty desktop after i logon. It then shows nothing
more than the wallpaper - no icons, no taskbar, no start button.

If I invoke the task manager by pressing <Ctrl-Alt-Del>, there is no
explorer.exe task. I have to start explorer.exe manually via the task manager
and if I do so, the desktop icons and taskbar appear, but anyhow, some of my
autostart applications (such as Windows Live Messenger) are still missing.

I already checked the registry for HKLM\software\microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\. Here it says Shell = Explorer.exe as it should.

Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance,
Hatrick
