reformatting/installing xp

I have a lap top with a busted cdrom and have been using
a usb powered external cdrom . I now need to reformatt
and reinstall windows xp and was needing to know if it
could be done using the usp powered cdrom to boot from
during reformatting and fresh install of the os.

Roy, if your CD Drive shows up in the Bios and you can set it as First
Boot Device.
