I have been suffering the same problem as many others, but the fix that has
been posted using the new .reg file, has not worked for me.
The MSN logo flashes breifly in the 'notification area', but as soon as i
move the cursor anywhere near the icon, it disappears.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Note that i have been able to get into my MSN account using an old version -
4.7

Many thanks

We have been suffering the same issue here with no resolution either. It
just continues to try and sign in forever and never works on one of our
computers.

Greetings,

To attempt to correct this, shut down Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon in the
notification area and choosing Exit, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/remove_wlmpolicies.reg

Then try signing in again.

Good day Jonathan

I have tried this fix but the problem does not go away.

Same here, it hangs forever. I try to click on the main messenger window and
it just asks me to end the program and then sends an error report. I have no
idea what has suddenly brought this on.
I've tried the fix Johnathon suggested, yet MSN still doesn;t work.

Argh is so annoying. Help would be much appreciated

thanks, Vicki

Hi Vicki,

Have you tried first to configure your firewall software to allow Windows
Live Messenger to always ALLOW send and receive messages over the Internet?

I did this first and then apply the registry patch, and now my Messenger is
working fine. I wish you luck!

Ok, that is too bad. Have you tried uninstall and then re-install? So that
was actually my first step, then the reconfiguration of firewall, then the
registry patch. But then I know this still may not work for you. I truly
empathize.

Maybe you can use Yahoo Messenger instead. It allows you to add MSN
messenger contacts as well.
