windows update is unreachable.

I have try to reach windows update for about a month now
with no luck. I can reach office update and microsoft
download center. but not windows update. all that happens
when I try to reach windowsupdate is that my connection
act like it is a dail up connection after about ten
minutes,I get DNS error message about not being able to
reach sever. I follow all the steps to go to internet
connections. I have cable modem connection. I also use
zone alarm plus. I have check my system to see in I have
a worm or virus to block me from winup. My system is so
clean. My os is XP PRO. PLEASE HELP? In the past I check
windows update twice a day. Now I feel my computer is so
out of date that I want a new one just to have a up to
date system.
