I have a 1.6Ghz P4 w/Asus P4B266-C motherboard, running Win XP-SP2 Home Edition. It has two memory slots and currently uses ONE 256Mb 266 DDR memory card. Is it possible to upgrade this motherboard to 1 Gb by using 2 x 512Mb cards or to 2 Gb by using 2 x 1Gb memroy cards? I have a friend who needs a computer for doing AutoCad work, and he's been informed that the computer he gets must have at least 512Mb of memory.
Could I/he add 2 x 512Mb 400 DDR or 2 x 1024Mb 400 DDR cards and would they work normally, or do I need to stay with the 266 style? I have found through the ASUS site that this particular motherboard is capable of running 2 Gb of RAM, but I have also seen some comments in other forums that anythin over 512Mb will cause problems.
