when my computer starts up it runs through all of the diagnostics like it
normally would, gets to the windows xp loading screen with the blue bar at
the bottom and then starts up all over again and only keeps repeating the
same process. any idea?? thanks

Can you boot to Safe Mode without it rebooting? If so, you may be able to track
down the software or hardware that's causing the reboot.
Have you installed any hardware/software recently? If so, uninstall/disable it to
see if it helps to boot to your normal desktop.

Did you have a thunder storm recently or your computer was over doing it
(overheated).
Try to unattach all Extra Hardware from the Computer and start just with the
Mouse, Keyboard in Safe Mode and there look in the Event Viewer by runing
this command in the Run Command:
eventvwr click [OK] and you willget the Event Viwer Window, look for (X)
Error messages and write them down and post them here in your next post.

Probably being caused by a "System Failure" class error of some kind
if you have default setting of "Restart on failure" still in effect
(Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and Recovery Settings).

Try bringing up the Windows XP Startup Menu (the one with the various
choices such as Safe Mode). To do this start tapping the F8 key when
the computer is part way through the startup diagnostics (before the
XP loading screen first appears) and keep tapping until the Startup
Menu appears.

Look on the menu for an item to "turn off automatic restart on system
failure" or words to that effect and choose it if it is there. If not
try Safe Mode. And if Safe Mode fails then try "Last Known Good
Configuration".

If you can disable the automatic restart then you should end up with a
Blue Screen Of Death STOP error message. The contents of the STOP
message, including the STOP code, all 4 of the parameters, and any
file or module names mentioned will be a direct clue as to the
underlying cause of your problem. Post that information back here.

Good luck
